So on this virtual road trip I’m trying my best to keep the states I review as close together as possible, however there will be some jumping around. I’ve currently got about 26 states in my cellar but will be working on filling it out over the year. I’m open to any suggestions you guys have for what you would like tasted and from where.

For my Ohio Wine I tried Troutman Vineyards 2012 Cabernet Franc. This wine did very well at multiple competitions including picking up a Silver at the San Francisco International Wine Competition and a Gold at the Indianapolis Wine Completion in 2014. Cabernet Franc is one of my favorite varietals so I was excited to taste one from a place I had never tasted one before.

I will say when I went to smell the wine the nose had an overwhelmingly tannic and acid scent. The good news is once I tried it I realized that the nose was the complete opposite of the taste on your palate. On the palate it was well balanced with notes of Cranberry and wood. I left it open a few hours to breathe and regret doing so as when I went to drink it the next day it tasted far too acidic. I think this wine is still a little young and could benefit from a few more years in the bottle but it was still quite delicious. If you have a chance to pick it up you should.

As for a quirk of Ohio, you aren’t allowed to use Santa in any advertisements for booze.

Next week tune in for Wisconsin.
